Luri Bag Face, - Carpets

West Central Persia (Iran), c. 76 x 120 cm, late 19th century, in soumak technique with a knotted panel at the lower end, this piece was one of the large double bags that used to be carried with a full load on camels; with a striped pattern featuring a camel caravan and four heavily stylised motifs depicting horses and riders; in coarse knotting, with newly overcast side edges, and a small hole in the knotting; a very similar piece has been sold by the auction house Rippon Boswell for c. 12,200 euros.
