The master of this relief is attributed to Jacob Cornelisz Cobaert, who made it around 1569 in accordance with the design by Guglielm della Porta. Around the year 1600 this masterpiece became the most known depiction of the Pieta and was made in many editions across Europe. The original is in the collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
