Two 'Fu' war trumpets.

Two 'Fu' war trumpets. - Tribal Art

63 cm and 67 cm long.

These bamboo horns were used to call out a headhunting or war raid. The intention was to petrify the enemy with the powerful sound, rendering him defenceless. They often have stylized fox paws in their decoration as a sign of successful headhunters.
Some of these trumpets have a pair of legs at the base. Those are said to represent a stylized decapitated human figure. (VJ)
