The present paintings relate to compositions by Polidoro da Caravaggio (1492–1543) for a façade of Villa Ricci, Rome which today is known in prints including those in the British Museum under inv. no. 1870,0813.897 (see L. De Castis, Polidoro da Caravaggio. L’opera completa, Naples 2001 p. 500-501, no. 29).
