A pair of large architectural eagles from Franzensburg Castle in Laxenburg,
bronze, each depicting a single-headed eagle sitting on a fortification, grey protective coating, 67 x 40 cm, first third of the 19th century, (Lu)
The present two architectural eagles originally come from Franzensburg Castle in Laxenburg. The ‘Franzensburg’ was built between 1801 and 1836 on an artificial island in Laxenburg at the behest of Emperor Francis I. The eagles were removed in the course of reconstruction works.
