Josef Hoffmann, a “Round Model” butter knife, executed by Wiener Werkstätte, by May 1922 - Jugendstil and 20th Century Arts and Crafts

silver; monogrammed BS in an oval at a later date; traces of use; on the side of the blade: rose mark, JH, Viennese purity mark Diana’s head (900) and WW; length 16.5 cm. (MP)

Literature:
Josef Hoffmann already designed and executed “Round Model” cutlery for the Wiener Werkstätte before 1907. However, the butter knife of that model has a different length. The present piece is thus a later execution. Cf. Neuwirth, Bestecke für die Wiener Werkstätte, p. 286f., no. 472, work no. S be 5/18.
