Caucasus, c. 220 x 157 cm, 19th century. The tree of life plays a central role in the mythology of oriental peoples. An archaic example of this rare group, with three rising trees of life. Particularly impressive are the magical signs of the quadripartite diamond as eyes in the tree trunks. Slightly trimmed upper end. Thin areas in the upper third. A few minor old repairs. Very good wool quality and original edges. (VP)
