The drawing is related to a painting by Gaspare Diziani of his three-part cycle with scenes of St. Helena’s finding of the Holy Cross in the Scuola di San Silvestro in Venice. The drawing differs in many details from the finished version, which suggests that it may have been an early and later abandoned design for the composition. In regard of thee painting see: A. P.
