"Les poissons et le berger qui joue de la flute", 1927-30/1952, etching on laid paper (Montval), signed Marc Chagall, additionally signed in the plate, from the edition of 100 impressions on Montval in a larger format, sheet 95 of the series 'Jean de la Fontaine, Fables', plate size 29.4 x 23.8 cm, sheet size 41.8 x 33.7 cm, created at Vollard’s behest and printed between 1927-30 by Maurice Potin/Paris, but not published until 1952 by Tériade Editeur, Cramer from 22, slightly unevenly browned, more noticeable at the edges and on the reverse, torn upper plate mark, (RAC)
