Iran, c. 372 x 212 cm, 19th century. The central piece of a composition probably consisting of three carpets, perhaps conceived as a triclinium, for important conversations between tribal leaders. Manufactured with the finest, plant-dyed sheep wool and with silk wefts, this carpet features tribal symbols of the South Persian nomads and detailed floral arrangements. Very well-preserved. (VP)
