Iran, c. 276 x 148 cm, 19th century. A so-called “gol farang (French Medallion)” tribal carpet from the Khamseh Federation of Southern Persia. This pattern is a good example of the integration of new (foreign) patterns into the repertoire of nomadic tribes in the 19th century. With newly overcast edges, deep pile and original condition.
