Cassiano e porta del Pallazzo Pesaro" and "Porto di Venezia a San Nicolo del Lido" by the artist on the reverse and signed G. de Guardi and Giacomo de Guardi, gouaches on paper, mounted, 7,5 x 15,8 cm and 7,7 x 15,5 cm, unframed, damaged (stained), (2) (Hu)

We are grateful to Dr. Federica Spadotto for the confirmation of the attribution by means of high-resolution digital photographs. According to her the works may derive from the late period of the artist.

Giacomo Guardi was the son and collaborator of Francesco Guardi. He continued the workshop of his father and specialized in painting vedutas and capriccios. At the beginning of his career Giacomo Guiardi was strongly influenced by Canaletto, later on the artist also referred to compositions of his father. Guardi executed numerous works of small format, which were quite popular among travellers to Venice. He frequently noted name and address of his workshop on the reverse.
