Andy Warhol
(Pittsburgh 1928-1987 New York) Joseph Beuys (Cleves 1921-1986 Düsseldorf) Kaii Higashiyama (1908-1999 Yokohama, Japan)
"Global-Art-Fusion", 1985, fax on thermal paper, each with a drawing by the 3 artists, 21 x 84.7 cm, additionally the trial fax that was sent by the artists as a test before the happening, along with the documentation catalogue, both sheets browned and with signs of age and use, (3), (EW)
Since only a few faxes were printed during the happening on 12.01.85, this is a very rare sheet. "Global-Art-Fusion, a unique, one-of-a-kind art event has gone around the world. In the real sense of the word, because on 12 January 1985 it made the ballroom of Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna the starting and ending point of a journey around the world in 32 minutes, a relay across continents, from one artist to another. It took half an hour to get to Joseph Beuys in Düsseldorf, Andy Warhol in New York, Kaii Higashiyama in Tokyo and back to the Museum Moderner Kunst in Vienna. Half an hour, which would also suffice to set the relentless machinery of a worldwide inferno of war in motion. Technology, to which we owe not only many sensible, pleasant and useful things, but also ‘progress’, makes it possible. Without technology, however, Global-Art-Fusion would also be inconceivable. Although it could not trigger world peace, it was able still to light a beacon of hope (...).” From the documentation catalogue on the Global-Art-Fusion project, Art-Fusion-Edition 1986, Bern/Switzerland.
