DUKE OF MANTUA COSTUME (»RIGOLETTO« - GIUSEPPE VERDI)

DUKE OF MANTUA COSTUME (»RIGOLETTO« - GIUSEPPE VERDI) - Costume Treasures of the Vienna State Opera

Director: Sandro Sequi
Costume Designer: Giuseppe Crisolini-Malatesta
Premiere: March 13, 1983
Size: EU 56*
Director Sandro Sequi sets the tragic story of the court jester in a modeled Renaissance setting, just as the lavishly designed and exquisite costumes are inspired by historical models. This costume was created by the Roman tailor Tirelli, who by their outstanding craftsmanship and historically well-founded fashions for films have made an international name for themselves - the craftsmen have worked together with directors from Fellini to Visconti to Scorsese and Minghella, and have won multiple Oscars. The Duke's costume is characterized by an impressive, clearly displayed pomp with selected exquisite materials and showing great visual attraction. In it, the situated and sure ruler is more strongly shown than the bon-vivant. At the premiere, the historically detailed and flawlessly crafted, multi-part costume was worn by Franco Bonisolli; other singers of the Duke have been Francisco Araiza, Peter Dvorský, Roberto Alagna, Marcello Álvarez, Joseph Calleja, Marcello Giordani, Rolando Villazón and Giuseppe Sabbatini. The costume consists of a shirt, collet (jacket), breeches, mantilla (cape) and is in good condition.
*As the costume was made to measure for the singer, it may differ from the standard size.
