GILDA COSTUME (»RIGOLETTO« - GIUSEPPE VERDI)

GILDA COSTUME (»RIGOLETTO« - GIUSEPPE VERDI) - Costume Treasures of the Vienna State Opera

Director: Sandro Sequi
Costume Designer: Giuseppe Crisolini-Malatesta
Premiere: March 13, 1983
Size: EU 36/38*
Director Sandro Sequi sets the tragic story of the court jester in a modeled Renaissance setting, just as the lavishly designed and exquisite costumes are inspired by historical models. This costume was created by the Roman tailor Tirelli, who by their outstanding craftsmanship and historically well-founded fashions for films have made an international name for themselves - the craftsmen have worked together with directors from Fellini to Visconti to Scorsese and Minghella, and have won multiple Oscars.
Gilda's somewhat more simple dress made of silk and silk linen is intended to underline her purity of character and her honesty, just as the delicate pink of the costume denotes the girlish, young character. The list of prominent sopranos who have worn this dress is long: in addition to the singer of the premiere Edita Gruberova, we can include Stefania Bonfadelli, Barbara Hendricks, Diana Damrau, Patricia Wise, Viktoria Loukianetz, Andrea Rost and Olga Peretyatko. The costume consists of a dress and a petticoat, and is in some parts very brittle / has small fabric damage.
*As the costume was made to measure for the singer, it may differ from the standard size.
