A Shrew-Shaped Trick Goblet, - Works of Art - Part 1

Central Germany, 18th century, body with attached head and long hollow tail, applied ears and feet, length 16 cm, tail tip chipped, on the underside inv. no. ÖMV 47.880, adhesive label with catalogue no. 5 (exhibition of the Österreichisches Museum für Volkskunde in the Schlossmuseum Gobelsburg, ‘Volkstümlich geformtes, bemaltes, geschliffenes Glas’, catalogue Vienna 1975), and adhesive label no. 23; (MC)

Provenance:
Collection of Albert Pollak (1878-1943), Vienna;
May 1938: confiscation of his collection by the GESTAPO, Vienna;
from March 1940 onwards: distribution of numerous objects to various museums by the Central Office for the Protection of Monuments;
November 1941: acquisition of 14 glass objects by the Museum of Folklore, Vienna;
June 1948: restitution notice to the heirs of Albert Pollak;
December 1950: delivery of the 14 glass objects to the heirs of Albert Pollak;
1951: involuntary consignment of six glass objects (export ban) to the Museum of Folklore, Vienna, by the heirs of Albert Pollak (inv. no. ÖMV/47879-ÖMV/47884);
September 2020: restitution of the objects to the heirs of Albert Pollak.
