The painting is part of a series of works inspired by the Lombard countryside. Eugenio Spreafico devoted himself to the series in the years before he moved to Magreglio on Lake Como. His focus, here as in other works, is on women’s work, without demonstrating any particular social awareness. Of particular interest is the red umbrella - a clear reference to Mosè Bianchi. The umbrella creates a personal space for the figure in which to perceive her inner dimension more clearly.
