Iran, c. 185 x 130 cm, 19th century. An exceptional medallion rug with a camel hair central field. The upper border features a white cartouche with the inscription: "Farmayesh-e hazrat-e sadr a'zam 1311". According to this, this important commissioned work was manufactured in 1894 for Mirza Ali Asghar (1858- 1907), who was Prime Minister under three Qajar rulers. Manufactured with lazy lines visible on the back of the carpet and c. 500,000 knots/sqm, in good condition. (VP)
