A tablecloth with strictly structured geometric-abstract decoration, in the style of Peter Behrens, designed in around 1905, executed probably by Simon Fränkel, Neustadt; Gebr. Kobusch and A. W. Kisker, - Jugendstil and 20th Century Arts and Crafts

Bielefeld; Hermann Pichler, Stuttgart-Laichingen or Weberei Ferdinand Stein, Alsfeld in Hesse hollow weave, cotton in red and olive green; wide strip frame of hourglass-shaped elements alternating with fields of twelve squares each connected by parallel lines; the inner corners with fields of eight squares each connected by parallel lines; the outside with a narrow frame frieze of geometric-abstract elements; the two mouldings bordered by bands of small squares; inside a strict arrangement of offset square and highly rectangular fields, picking up and alternating the decoration of the trims on a larger scale; hemmed; traces of use, slightly faded and stained; minor holes, some of which have been mended; 136 x 134 cm.(SH)
