Indeed, in art, something of a silent and natural agreement between the creator and the viewer is needed, assuming, of course, that they are not completely opposed in their spiritual sensibility, as is unfortunately the case in the present time of crisis. We can assume that in unified stylistic periods, such a spontaneous agreement did in fact exist between the viewer and the art. This is necessary in order for art to convince, to meet with a similar spiritual state and to avoid misunderstandings. Otherwise, stylistic expression, measured purely by optics, would seem absurd, unnatural and inexpressive.
