Andy Warhol

(Pittsburgh 1928–1987 New York)
“Mick Jagger”, 1975, screenprint in colours on wove paper, signed Andy Warhol, also signed by Mick Jagger, no. 114 from the edition of 250 numbered examples, sheet size 110 x 73. 5 cm, printed by Alexander Heinrici/New York and published by Seabird Editions/London with their inkstamp on the reverse, Feldman/Schellmann/Defendi II.138

Fascinated by fame and celebrity, it's no surprise that Warhol developed a close friendship with the Rolling Stones' lead singer. As early as 1971, Warhol designed the legendary "Sticky Fingers" album for the Rolling Stones, and later, Mick Jagger was a regular guest at the Factory.

The ten Mick Jagger portraits from 1975 are based on photographs Warhol took at Jagger's estate in Montauk, a town on Long Island, New York, where the Rolling Stones were rehearsing for their upcoming US tour.
