Strong demand for international as well as Austrian art marked the successful auction of„Modern Art“ taking place at the Vienna Dorotheum on 24th. The highlight of the international selection was a Still Life with a View of St Peter's in Rome by Gino Severini, sold to a European collector for 145.300 Euro (Cat. No. 503), while a gouache by Fernand Léger was worth 82.555 Euro to a Spanish buyer (Cat. No. 535).
Modern sculpture also left a strong impression with works like Arturo Martini's bronze Shepherdess (€ 73.500, Cat. No. 544) or Giacomo Manzù's Cardinal (€ 85.700, Cat. No. 501).
Austrian painting had a field day, in particular two of its most important protagonists, Kolo Moser and Carl Moll: Moser's suggestive self portrait of 1915 reached 116.200 Euro, and his Treetops in a mountain landscape 133.800 Euro (Cat. No. 514, 510). This price was matched by an Impression of Schönbrunn by Carl Moll, sold to a European bidder (Cat. No. 511), while a Southern coastal landscape of 1930 by the same artist finished the bidding at 49.100 Euro (Cat. No. 513).
