RECORD PRICE FOR A SHELBY COBRA

The Dorotheum’s most successful Classic Car sale to date held at Classic Expo Salzburg on 17 October 2015

More than one million euros for the 1963 Shelby Cobra Mk I, an icon in automobile history; an altogether high clearance rate of 95 per cent; lively bidding and a keen international interest: all this marked the Dorotheum’s recent Classic Cars and Automobilia sale. The auction house’s most successful vintage car sale to date was held within the framework of Classic Expo on the Salzburg Fairgrounds on 17 October 2015.

Two further top lots from automobile history, each of them with an excellently documented provenance, attracted attention for realising peak prices. Ferrari’s 250 GT Pininfarina coupé, produced in 1960, was finally knocked down for €572,000. And a car lover gave €379,500 for an unrestored specimen of a Lancia Stratos HF Group 4 from 1974, a rally legend looking back on a racing history.
