Sensational price for sculpture at Dorotheum

1.425 million euros for a work from the famous Monzino Collection


The so-called Monzino Uli, from Lembankakat Mbaru, New Ireland, was sold at the Dorotheum Auction House as part of the "African and Oceanic Art - Treasures from the Monzino Collection" auction on June 21st for 1.425 million euros. A telephone bidder succeeded after many minutes of bidding against other interested parties both in the hall and on the telephone.
The 81 cm tall wooden figure from between the 17th-19th  century had been part of the famous Carlo Monzino collection.
