DRIVING JOY "UNPLUGGED"

Classic Vehicles Auction in Vienna on June 15, 2019

Just in time for the summer road season, 107 classics on wheels, about half of them motorcycles, go on sale in Vienna, each delivering their own sweet promises of motorized joy! They will all take to the podium at Dorotheum's June 15, 2019, "Classic vehicles" auction at Dorotheum Vösendorf in Vienna.

The top lots include an extremely rare Beetle Cabriolet from 1952, also known as the "pretzel convertible" after the shape of its rear window (Volkswagen Type 15 Karmann Cabriolet, €45,000 - 60,000), and a specimen of French design icon Citroen Ami 6 from 1964 (€8,000 - 12,000). For all the car-loving Romeos, the auction also has a lovely Julia to court, a Giulia from Alfa Romeo, just iching to be loved again (1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Spider, € 50,000 - 65,000).

Sporty cruising
The auction's historical highlights are provided by Jaguar, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. They most notably include an S. S. 100 Jaguar 2 ½ Litre from 1938 (€290,000 - 370,000), a pre-war sports car par excellence and one of only 198 of its kind worldwide; a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT/E Pininfarina 2+2 Series III (€280,000 - 360,000); an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Berlinetta Touring from 1948, considered a pinnacle amongst post-war supercars, combining an elegant body with a potent sports car engine (€260,000 - 340,000).

Quite a few attractive Porsches have also announced their presence in Vösendorf, among them the sensational Porsche 930 Turbo 3,0 litres from 1976, a lean package of raw power that carries a price estimate of between 130,000 and 190,000 euro.

The Heinz Prüller Collection
Some cars deserve special attention on account of their previous owners. This rings true for the car once driven by iconic sports commentator Heinz Prüller, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation's unrivalled Formula One expert commentator. When "the voice of Formula One" was off the air, this 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0 (€18,000 - 26,000) was his favoured ride. Another example is the 1982 Porsche 911 SC 3.2 litres (€ 80,000 - 110,000), a unique prototype specimen which was driven for many years by Helmuth Bott, top executive of research and development at Porsche from 1979 to 1988, and as such responsible for the conception of a number of Porsche's most iconic models.

Nostalgics will be warmed to the heart by the orange VW-Samba, or, to be more precise, by our completely rewamped 963 Volkswagen T1 Special Edition equipped with no less than 21 windows. As an archetypal child of the 1960s, the bus actually did make its maiden voyage by ship to a dealership in San Francisco, the city that only a few years later would become a virtual paradise on earth for VW buses (€ 80,000 - 110,000).

Classic car fans will also find a multitude of highly attractive models from Mercedes-Benz, VW (such as the Beetle "Última edición", €24,000 - 30,000) and Maserati. Noteworthy not least is a Vauxhall 25 GY Wingham Cabriolet from 1937, one of only five known vehicles world-wide (€38,000 - 52,000).

The American La France from 1917, stylistically based on bulky fire engines and also up for sale on June 15, is accompanied with the following catalogue text: "At 100 years of age, this machine still hasn't found the man who can tame it" (€65,000 – 85,000). Now, if that isn't a challenge!

Among the prominent motorcycles to come under the hammer, the Royal Enfield 9-76 HP Sports Model182 from 1927 especially stands out (€18,000 - 26,000).

Please note: The AUTOMOBILIA Online Auction ends on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at 3 PM. Bids can be placed online from June 4, 2019, at www.dorotheum.com.
