MILLION EURO SALES AT DOROTHEUM

Paintings by Artemisia Gentileschi and Anthony van Dyck sold successfully at Dorotheum’s Old Master Paintings auction


On 23rd October, 2018, a rare painting by the Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi (1593 - 1654), Lucretia, was auctioned at Dorotheum for a sensational price of 1,885,000 euro. A bidder in the room prevailed against several interested parties on the phone and the successful purchase was met with applause.

 
A portrait by Anthony van Dyck (1599 - 1641) also reached over a million, with an outstanding price of 1,425,000 euro. A telephone bidder purchased the Portrait of a Noblewoman with a Parrot, a previously undocumented work and a new addition to the corpus of works by one of the most famous and sought-after portrait painters.
