Lambretta, Vespa & Co: Major Dorotheum Motorscooter Auction on 6th April 2018

April the 6th, 2018 has all the makings of a red-letter day for Lambrettisti, Vespisti, and other motorised open-air fanatics. On that date, the Dorotheum "Fahrzeug & Technik-Zentrum Wien-Vösendorf" (Automotive & Technology Centre) will host an auction of approximately 100 motorscooters, with a particularly strong Lambretta presence and including the very first Innocenti scooter, the Lambretta 125 m.

Decades of scooter history unwind before our very eyes. All vehicles and replacement parts which were produced between the 1940s and 1990s, came from a single Austrian private collection. Offered at highly attractive starting bids ranging from 50 to 500 Euro, the motorised two-wheelers include lovingly restored models as well as some that promise to make recreational auto mechanics very happy.

Who knows, soon you may race around in a green or cream-and-red 1969 model Lambretta DL 200 or a 1984 Lambretta Jet. "Slim, lean, a little temperamental, but crazy elegant", a fan once summed up the Lambretta line succinctly. The Vespa Primavera 125 dating to 1975 likewise lives up to its reputation. Those less Italy-mad will be pleased to find three very rare KTM Mirabell models, accompanied by Kauba, Colibri and Lohner, witnesses of a Viennese scooter history long forgotten, or the charming, three-wheeled delivery vehicle Cezeta CZ 505 from 1962. The selection also features a Maicomobil, more like a spaceship than a scooter, though it may need a bit of care before its next lift-off.

Spring, here we come!
