Carl Theodor von Blaas was the son of Julius von Blaas and grandson of Carl von Blaas. He is considered a highly expressive representative of Art Déco painting and created numerous portraits of the nobility as well as of artists and children.

Von Blaas studied at the Academies of Munich and Paris before moving to Vienna in 1914. He worked as a war painter During the World War One, and joined the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1923. He travelled extensively through Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. He lived in Kitzbühel, Tyrol from 1940 onwards.

Dorotheum sold numerous works by Von Blaas in a special auction that it held at Tannenmühle Castle, the Blaas family home, in September 2011.
