Jiri - vendere e comprare opere

born in 1954 in Krnov, Czech Republic.

Jiří Georg Dokoupil was born in 1954 in what is now Czechoslovakia. In 1968, he emigrated with his family to Cologne where he studied art. He continued his education in Frankfurt and New York. Dokoupil’s artistic career was initially closely linked to his fellow painter Walter Dahn, with whom he has been a member of the group “Mühlheimer Freiheit” since the early 1980s. In 1982, there was an initial exhibition with joint paintings by the two artists. They held a lectureship together at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1983 to 1984. Dokoupil was shown at the documenta in Kassel, and his exhibitions at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg and the National Gallery in Prague caused a particular stir. Since 1989, he has taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.

The painter, draughtsman and graphic artist Dokoupil likes to experiment with unconventional techniques. His “soap bubble paintings” are among Dokoupil’s most successful series of works and are also highly sought after at auctions.
