Ashanti, Ghana: a round pendant made of gold, with the representation of a crocodile.
An extremely well-worked, round pendant made of pure gold. With a central, stylised representation in low relief of a prostrate crocodile (seen from above). With circular and openwork zigzag décor (encircling the rim). The item was executed in a single piece of gold with ‘waste mould’ casting. With two eyelets on the reverse (above and at the bottom). A minor breakage to the outer rim at the left. Otherwise no damage.
Diameter: 7.5 cm x 8 cm.
