Mixed lot (3 items), Kotoko, Cameroon, Chad: three rider figures of the Kotoko, called ‘Putchu Guinadji’. Made of cast brass. Amulets against witchcraft and madness.
For a more detailed explanation see cat. no. 23. A special feature of these three riding warriors is that all three have drawn swords in their right hands, in order to do battle against the ‘evil spirits’ of witchcraft, as well as emotional and psychological illness. Good patina.
Height: 2 x c. 5 cm, 1 x 6 cm; length: 5 cm, 5.3 cm, 5.5 cm. First half to mid-20th century. (ME)
