Florentine School, 17th Century - a pair (2) - Dipinti antichi

Saint Apollonia; and Saint Agatha
oil on panel, tondi, diameter each 26.5 cm, framed, a pair (2)

Provenance:
Private European collection

Literature:
P. Benassai, Sebastiano Mazzoni, Florence 1999, pp. 129-130, nos. 68-69, figs. 27 and 29 (as ‘opere incerte’)
The two works were included in Sebastiano Mazzoni’s monograph as ‘uncertain works’, and referred to a painter of Florentine School of the 17th century. In the details of the colour and the way the hair is painted there are elements resembling Florentine artists such as Giovanni Bilivert, Francesco Furini and Cesare Dandini.

An attribution to Vincenzo Mannozzi (Florence 1600–1658) has been suggested by Roberto Ciabattini on the basis of photographs.
