Andreas Hofer, b. 1767 in Sankt Leonhard im Passeier, d. 1810 in Mantua, Tyrolean freedom fighter, innkeeper "am Sande", Sandwirt of Passeier, headed the Tyrolean fight for freedom together with others in 1809. After the mount Isel victory against the Bavarians on May 25 and 29, he continued the fight for Tyrol even after the truce of Znaim. After his contingent of people on mount Isel had beaten the French he became the regent of Tyrol.
