1955 Rumi Formichino

1955 Rumi Formichino - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Austrian roll-out, wonderfully documented!

In 1954, Rumi made an excursion to the Vespa and Lambretta pond with its “tiny ant". Some claim that it is the most beautiful scooter there is. This will of course always be debated, but the Rumi is certainly a unique piece of work. The fact that its creator, Donnino Rumi, was actually an artist and a sculptor, is easy to see. Above all, however, the sound of the two-cylinder two-stroker is unmistakable. The technical conception and design were groundbreaking, and it has also been crowned with success on the race tracks of this world!

This Rumi dates from 1955 and is as such one of the oldest Formichinos that still exist in Austria. And as one of these it is also distinguished by its old speedometer and its steering headlight. For two years it waited in Rumi’s showroom in Vienna, namely Autohaus Hohe Warte, until in March 1957 it finally found its first owner in Lower Austria. After a change of ownership in 1960, it was sold to its long-standing third owner via the Faber company as a second-hand scooter. From this sale, there are still an original invoice, a cash receipt and other documents, all of which round off the wonderful history of this masterpiece of a scooter. Recently, this Formichino found its way to a Rumi collector, who then restored it with masses of love for detail. Here you can see the result, and in any case, anyone can drive a Vespa!
