walnut wood, copper plated brass fittings, rectangular body with three doors, surmounted by three drawers with all-round grooved frieze, glazed doors; signs of age and use; with original key; locks and key marked; height 138.5 cm, length 161 cm, width 40.5 cm. Typical of Loos is the ornamental frieze consisting of alternating vertical and horizontal squares. Loos used this decorative feature as early as 1905 for Alfred Kraus’s apartment, from then onwards resorting to it repeatedly for furnishings and apartments. He also used it to design the store of Knize Gentleman’s Outfitters in 1910. (MP)
