West Turkestan, c. 44 x 155 cm, mid-19th century, asymmetrical knot, layered goat hair warp open to the right; although the camel adornment looks rustic and has been manufactured in original conditions, at closer inspection the weaver’s skillfulness becomes manifest, revealing the great value of this historical art object, 2 x 6 multicolour guls in Salor style, with linear mini chuval secondary motifs containing four hooked motifs, narrow border with dynamic ‘S’ symbols and patterned elem, woven finishes folded backwards, low pile, both short sides trimmed.
