Order of the Starry Cross, personal insignia of Empress Charlotte of Mexico, née Princess of Belgium (1840-1927). In 1857 she married Archduke Ferdinand Max (Emperor Maximilian of Mexico as of 1864) The Order of the Starry Cross with brilliants was worn only in rare cases, mostly by members of the Austrian Imperial Family. Versions with brilliants for the “Grand Mistress” of the Order are documented, e.g. for Empress Elisabeth and Empress Zita.
Provenance:
Empress Charlotte of Mexico, by inheritance to Archduchess Elisabeth (“Erszi”), only daughter of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria, and heirs.
