The present drawing is a preliminary study for the lithograph in the opposite direction by Girodet-Troison (S. Bellenger, Girodet (1767–1824), Exh. Cat. 22nd Sept. 2005 – 2nd January 2006, Musée du Louvre et Gallimard, 2005, p. 259, fig. 170). The engraving has a companion piece in another lithograph depicting „Erigone“ (Sleeping). Another version of the present drawing is kept in the Musée Girodet, Montargis.
