Christian Friedrich Zincke counts among the best miniaturists of the 18th century in England and dedicated himself mainly to enamel painting. His patrons belonged foremost to the aristocracy. Due to the blue ribbon of the Order of the Garter the sitter represented in the miniature may belong to high-level English aristocracy. The resemblances in the physiognomy may point to representations of John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792), who occupied the position of a prime minister under George III. in 1762/63.
