The market place in Hallstatt with the Trinity column, indistinctly monogrammed and dated Fr. (18)42, pencil, watercolour on paper, 39 x 28 cm, mounted, framed, (Hu)
The watercolour was given to us together with three pencil drawings (lot 229) and a small sketch which was attached to the watercolour. Besides a pencil sketch the small sheet is also inscribed with the name "M. le Baron de Frenilly"... Baron de Frénilly (Paris 1768-1848 Graz) belonged to the high finance of France during the French Revolution. After the overthrow of King Charles X in 1830 Frénilly left Paris and spent his life travelling.
