"It is after America... that certain thoughts deeply preoccupy me.
After America, where I have seen this Western world of ours taken to extremes; where I have seen this civilisation that started in Europe, taken to absurdity...
There is a lot of talk about American painting, but what about the European diaspora? Why should we be the debtors?
It's time to say it out loud: if Europeans have taken something from the
Americans, it's something they had already taken from Europe".

Emilio Vedova

The cycle of paintings De America, created by Emilio Vedova between 1976 and 1977, is the result of a long journey that began in 1935, and is the product of an individuality that can only be known through immersion in time and history. The title attributed to the works is an obvious reference to the artist's experiences in the United States which began in 1951 and continued for twenty-six years, characterised by relationships established with universities, public institutions, and representatives of Transatlantic culture, by numerous exhibitions from Canada to Latin America and by important recognitions from prestigious venues such as the Guggenheim Award.
