“Simultaneous landscape + Caproni plane + train”
is one of the artist’s most significant takes on the rebirth of Messina and its territory, which were devastated by a terrible earthquake in 1908. Nature regenerating itself is symbolised by the reconstituted tree. The train symbolises communications and the restoration of transport, and the plane hurtling through the sky towards the sun embodies the technology, speed and optimism with which man looks to the future.
