A Set of Three Wall Hooks, designed by Adolf Loos, - Design

c. 1909-1911, for the store of Knize Gentleman’s Outfitters, cast brass, height of each hook: c. 25.5 cm, width c. 5 cm, depth c. 17 cm (MHA).

The Knize tailor’s shop is the only surviving work by Adolf Loos in the field of “gentleman’s outfitting”. Loos designed the entire two-storey shop on Graben 13, 1010 Vienna, including its portal. The shop remains almost unchanged to this day. When Knize opened its doors in 1858, both the Emperor and the Archdukes of the House of Habsburg were already customers, thus making it Imperial and Royal Court Tailor. It also had branches in Karlsbad, Berlin, Paris, Prague and Bad Hofgastein. Numerous artists bought from Knize - among others, Oskar Kokoschka, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Tucholsky, Josephine Baker, Marlene Dietrich, and many more.
