An 18th Century 'Aso' Dragon Element
Borneo, wood, 53 cm. Comes with Ciram test. Large posts made from dense ironwood are collectively known as Hampatong. Some figures portray ancestors, others supernatural guardians who prevent dangerous spirits, particularly those bringing sickness, from entering the community. The two most important of these guardian spirits are the 'Aso' (a kind of underworld dragon-dog representing the strong female spirits) and the Naga or serpent.
