When the draft bill for the construction of the railway was introduced in 1863, several companies competed to be appointed as works foremen. The project was doubtlessly delayed due to the events of the war, with difficulties in commencing the works lasting until 1867. The concession to construct the stretch from Arad to Alba Iulia (Karlsburg) was won by a private company, known as the ‘Erste Siebenbürger Eisenbahn’. The railway line was opened on 22 December 1868.
L. Drescher ran a photographic studio in Arad from 1858 onwards.
