Grand nephew of Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller. Lach studied at the Vienna Academy under Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels. He was an official of the Ersten Donau -Dampfschiffahrts – Gesellschaft (First Danube Steamship Company) and in 1890 became harbor recorder in Orsova (todays Romania), later on in Beograd and in Regensburg. He was a member of the Austrian Künstlerbund and of the Dürerbund and is considered the most significant watercolour artist after Rudolf von Alt. He committed himself mainly to landscape watercolours. The present watercolours offered in this auction and in the following ones are professionally framed and belong to the most extensive Austrian private collection of high quality works by the artist.
