Lotto No. 596

Alexei Harlamoff

(Dyachevka 1840–1925 Paris)
Portrait of Pianist Anna Yesipova-Leschetitzky (1851–1914), signed Harlamoff (faded), watercolour on paper, 32 x 26 cm, original mount with Cyrillic inscription of the Society of Russian Artists in Paris (43 x 32.5 cm), mounted, framed

Provenance:
Private Collection, Vienna.

We are grateful to Dr Olga Sugrobova-Roth for her scholarly advice.

The Russian inscription on the cardboard of the original mount testifies that the watercolour was a gift from the Society of Russian Artists in Paris to the famous pianist Anna Nikolayevna Yesipova-Leschetitzky (1851-1914). Yesipova-Leschetitzky performed in a concert at the Society’s premises at 18 Rue de Tilsitt on 24 February 1883. The donation was signed by four members of the Society’s committee, as well as the Society’s secretary, the celebrated writer Ivan Turgenev (1818-1883).
