This sketch depicts a country road in Pellizza's home of Volpedo, and was executed there between 1889 and 1890 and left as a gift for his friend Bonomelli.
Pellizza was in Volpedo during the summer of 1889 where he created various sketches, mainly landscape impressions from life with quick brushstrokes.

Pellizza attended the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo in 1888-1889, a year densely populated with studies and drawings from life. This experience also reinvigorated the climate of collaboration and friendship at the Academy where he met, among others, the painter Romeo Bonomelli, with whom a lively and genuine friendship continued in later years.
