India: a very old, standing bronze statue of the Hindu god ‘Vishnu’.
The four-armed Hindu god ‘Vishnu’ (the ‘preserver’) stands on a three-step lotus plinth (first round, then rectangular). Shiva wears a tall crown and has three attributes in three hands (club, wheel and conch shell horn). The fourth, upper right hand alludes to ‘wish granting’ (‘Varada Mudra’) holding his open palm upwards. It is a very old sacred object, executed with ‘waste mould’ casting. With two anklets made of metal. No damage. The entire surface of the piece shows heavy traces of usage over a long period of time.
Height: 12.5 cm; width: 5.5 cm.
