Karmann started offering the Type 15, a four-seater cabriolet, in September 1949. Officially recognized as a VW family member, the convertible has benefited from the same model updates as the sedan. When German production of the Beetle stopped in 1975, Karmann in Osnabrück continued manufacturing. Thursday, January 10, 1980 was a black day for Beetle fans: production was discontinued. Even protests against it were of no help. As a result, "new" high prices were paid for the last models, prices well over the original.

This convertible was registered in Vöcklabruck, in Upper Austria, on January 17, 1979. The original owner became a happy father in 1981, and subsequently the consignor became the lucky new owner of the Beetle. He had fulfilled a long-standing wish. In order to protect his dream car, he even bought a second in 1980! Both VWs were only driven when the weather was nice, otherwise another car was used. As a result, the cars aged under the best of conditions. Now, of course, they still have their original motor, the original roof and cover, and they are equipped for those cool autumn evenings thanks to additional heating. The Beetle is unrestored, although the paint has been touched up here and there. The car radiates a beautiful charm and has dreamlike numbers to inspire. Because of age – and because there is still a second in the garage, of course – this terrific cabriolet is now available to a new owner!
